There are different areas to work in if you major in Finance. You could work in a major corporation, a bank, an investment bank, the government, etc.

So some of the courses offered vary based on the audience. A course on Corporate Finance, for example, might look at it from the Investment Banker perspective or the Corporate Manager perspective.

Here are some terms:
investments - stocks, bonds, derivatives, etc.
banking - lending money, running a bank, regulations
corporate finance - working in a corporation and controlling and managing its financial activities
accounting - a system to keep the books accurate.
international finance - currencies, world trade, etc.

Any of these “terms” might be the basis for a course offered by the Finance Dept.
