Hi Sudha. Thanks for the link. But,unless I am reading challenged, I was looking for getting into the career of investment banking. I do not think your link address the issue. I am 30. So i am wondering. i am my question is slightly repetitious.

I’d guess the ‘normal’ path where I am (Toronto) would be to get an internship after a bachelor’s degree, then return to school for an MBA, then enter into a rotation at one of the big houses.

So some experience at around 22, then full time entry by 26 or so. You need good marks, and connections help a ton in getting in.

Its tough to get in later, though of course anything is possible. Investment banking is a pretty grueling business at all levels, but the entry level guys are going to be expected to put in 80 hours a week or so. It would be a tough regimen for older workers.

If you’re older and have experience in particular business areas, like tech startups, etc, that might be of more interest to venture capital groups who are often looking for peopel who combine the core financial skills with a deep understanding of a particular industry.

You need a graduate degree from an absolutely top-draw school. Either get an MBA or a quantitative degree and finish at the absolute top of your class.

Simply put, you have to have impeccable credentials and experience as well as finishing at the “top of class” in school.
