Bookkeeping Classes?

I have Quickbooks experience and feel I can navigate pretty well through the program. I do not have any actual “Bookkeeping” experience, and my boss knows that and has always said if I want to take classes on it, or anything he is more than willing to send me. I feel I have a basic knowledge of it, but there is always room to grow.
Are there any Bookkeeping classes/seminars I can take? Are there any certifications I could get?

Check at your local community college. They usually have certificate programs in Bookkeeping.
Since you’re already working in Quickbooks and know your way around, I suggest that you go to Intuit and go through their beta certification class. Not the ProAdvisor as that costs some bucks. I had taken two online courses for QB through Ed2Go.com, but this class which is about 15 hours really polished it off for me.
Since you don’t have any formal bookkeeping experience I also suggest you take Accounting Fundamentals and Advanced Accounting Fundamentals from Ed2Go. If you do decide to go with Ed2Go the school listed below is the one I used and the cost was $77 each. Some websites have prices up to $100 and they are exactly the same class. You will receive a certificate of completion after your final with a passing grade. I highly recommend this site and ended up taking 10 classes from them this summer.
You can check with your local junior college - most of them offer a certificate or 2 year degree in accounting or bookkeeping. Some of the courses I would recommend are - basic accounting, Excel, Payroll Accounting and QuickBooks.
Some of the courses they offer will be more secretarial type classes that you probably won’t need (a waste of time and money if you already have the experience).
I do have another suggestion. Check out the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers at. They offer several good books that teach different subjects and with quizes etc. Then you can take exams to become a certified bookkeeper. I am a member and I believe I have almost all the books.
